2009 Executive Board Positions

The NetSAP DC Executive Board is made up of committed volunteers interested in contributing in a meaningful way to the strategic growth and long-term health of the organization. The President and all Directors make up the Executive Board. Chairs serve directly under the Director of Pillar and Committeesand assist with the overall responsibilities of each individual pillar or committee. Candidates should apply to an area or areas of interest for consideration as a Director and/or Chair. Please see below for descriptions.

Please submit your resume and answers to the following questions to Elections ( or send all applications to elections@netsap.org) by Sunday, November 9th. Selected applicants will be invited to phone interviews and possible in-person interview in Washington, DC the week of November 11th so please include your availability for that day with your application.

1. In what ways do you feel that NetSAP DC can fulfill its potential as a professional networking organization? Please cite your overall philosophy as well as specific examples (wherever possible) and include what role you would like to play in facilitating these activities.

2. Why are you seeking the position you have indicated? What specific skills make you the best candidate for this position? What other experience have you had within NetSAP DC (office or volunteer positions, if applicable)?

3. What relevant experience have you previously had with other community or non-profit organizations and how is it applicable to the position you are interested in?

4. How many hours per month (average) are you willing to commit to your NetSAP DC responsibilities, if chosen?

The NetSAP DC Executive Board term begins December 2008 and continues for up to 15 months to ensure a smooth succession for the following year's officers.

President

Contact Current President: Suchin Adhlakha - president@netsap.org
Works closely with the Vice President and Directors to provide vision and goals for NetSAP DC.
o Act as the Chief Executive Officer of the Organization
o Preside at all Meetings of Members and Meetings of the Board
o Oversee all of the Organization’s activities
o Effectuate the resolutions and directives of the Board
o Delegate any and all duties of any Officer to any other Officers of the Organization, due to the absence, disability, or removal of an Officer
o Discharge all duties incident to the office of President and such other duties as the Board may prescribe

Vice President

Works with the President to ensure the goals and operations of the organization are met at all times.
o Act as the Chief Operating Officer of the Organization
o Attend and/preside at all Meetings of Members and Meetings of the Board
o Assist the President to Oversee all of the Organization’s activities
o Effectuate the resolutions and directives of the Board
o Delegate any and all duties of any Officer to any other Officers of the Organization, due to the absence, disability, or removal of an Officer
o Discharge all duties incident to the office of President and such other duties as the Board may prescribe

Secretary

Works with the President to ensure that all of the organizational communication needs are met at all times.
o Act as the Chief Information Officer of the Organization
o Record the minutes of the Meetings of Members and the Meetings of the Board
o Serve as the custodian of all corporate records, with the exception of financial records, but including those documents necessary to verify and maintain the tax-exempt status of the Organization
o Assemble the content for the weekly newsletter; and
o Perform such other duties incident to the office and as the President or the Board may assign

National Liaison
Contact Current National Liaison: Sonya Mazumdar- liaison@netsap.org
Works with the President and Board Members to ensure open and frequent communication exists with the NetSAP Board, NetIP National Board, and NetIP chapters in North America.
o Represent the Organization in any and all meetings of the Board of Directors of the Network of Indian Professionals of North America (NetSAP DC) including conference calls
o Attend and represent the Organization at all local, regional, and national meetings or conferences organized by NetSAP DC
o After consultation with the President or the Board, prepare any and all documents and reports required by NetSAP DC on behalf of the Organization; and
o Perform such other duties incident to the office and as the President or the Board may assign

Director of Pillars and Committees

Works with the Board, Pillars, and Committees to ensure the goals of the organization are met at all times.
o Oversee and supervise the proper functioning of the Pillars and Committees of the Organization
o Provide regular reports to the Board as to the status of the individual committees
o Meets with Pillar and Committee Chairs at least once a quarter to ensure visibility and operational adjustment
o Perform such other duties incident to the office and as the President or the Board may assign

Director of Finance, Treasurer

Works with the President to ensure the financial goals of the organization are met at all times.
o Maintains financial integrity of NetSAP DC
o Creates budgets and a monthly financial summary
o Creates Profit and Loss statements for each event
o Updates the organization's Policy Manual
o Creates annual statement of cash flows, balance sheets and income statements
o Handles daily operations, banking, and mail
o Manages accounts receivable and payables
o Ensures that taxes are filed accordingly and in a timely fashion
o Coordinates insurance and liability issues
o Records and issues meeting minutes
o Maintains organization files and inventory of supplies
o Works with the President to create and submit month and quarterly chapter reports to Executive Board and National
o Works with all VPs to create budgets and ensure that internal procedures are properly followed
o Creates a nominating committee and oversees board elections
o Ensures that the organization maintains its tax-free status and files state and federal documentation
o Ensures that all monies are collected efficiently at each event
o Assists other board members as needed

Director of Technology
Contact Current Director: Ajay Phogat– webmaster@netsap.org
Oversees technology initiatives and investments to ensure the organization is able to function effectively. Oversee all Technology Coordinators.
o Creates and implements technology plans/solutions
o Maintains the website and responds to queries/problems regarding technology issues
o Creates links and fulfills technological requests as needed for events
o Maintains security protocol for effective internal operations
o Works with Marketing & Communications and Corporate Relations to ensure the website is up to date
o Designs, develops and maintains a Members only website section
o Serve as the primary contact for all matters related to information technology encountered by the Organization;
o Assists other board members with technology issues

Director of Marketing

Oversees overall messaging of NetSAP DC to the general public and contingency.
o Develops Marketing and Communications plan and budgets
o Promotes the vision and Mission of NetSAP DC to members, non-members and other organizations
o Creates and distributes weekly emails to keep members informed of upcoming events
o Works with Corporate Relations to develop fund development marketing materials
o Work with Technology and Membership to create the Member only section on website
o Creates a semi-annual newsletter to be sent to all members
o Maintains a database of Media Contacts and other South Asian Organization contacts
o Maintains and updates the Website through Technology
o Obtains media coverage for the organization
o Assists other board members as needed

Director of Member Relations

Serves to maintain and expand the organization’s membership and member involvement.
o Answers questions about the organization and resolves membership issues
o Creates and distributes Membership Information Package
o Develops a Membership retention plan
o Identifies value proposition for NetSAP DC Membership and works with Marketing & Communications to communicate the benefits of membership and Corporate Relations to develop partnerships that bring value to members
o Responsible for selling membership to as many people as possible
o Maintains Membership database
o Creates budgets and monthly membership reports
o Works with Community Service, Political Awareness, Social & Cultural Events, and Professional Development to design and execute a membership orientation/volunteer training program
o Provides a monthly Membership report to the Executive Board
o Works with Technology to survey NetSAP DC membership and develop/maintain the Member section of NetSAP DC website
o Assists other board members as needed

Director of Special Events

Plans and executes events designed to promote social interaction.
o Provides event reports to the Executive Board
o Creates event plans, pre-event budgets and post event reports
o Provides event details to Marketing & Communications for publicity purposes
o Plans and executes at least 10 regular events aimed at promoting social interaction and networking
o Develops and documents a list of venues that host NetSAP DC events
o Builds relationships with DC restaurants, bars, and halls to arrange and negotiate food/drink specials and venue usage
o Encourages a professional but fun atmosphere for members to mingle
o Assists other board members as needed

Director of Corporate Relations

Raises funds from corporations, foundations, individual donors, etc. for the organization.
o Develops and executes diversified fund development for NetSAP DC
o Works with Marketing & Communications to develop and distribute marketing materials aimed at raising funds for key NetSAP DC programs/events/initiatives
o Obtains advertisers for weekly email newsletter, website, and other marketing mediums.
o Works with Membership to identify key strategic partners that can add value to NetSAP DC membership, including joint venture events
o Forges and maintain relationships with key businesses/organizations to provider greater value to NetSAP DC members
o Works with Marketing & Communications to develop media sponsorships
o Raises funds for the organization
o Assists other board members as needed

Community Service Pillar Chair

Plans and executes events designed to promote service in the community.
o Provides event reports to the Executive Board
o Creates event plans, pre-event budgets and post event reports
o Forges strategic partnerships with other community service and action organizations on behalf of NetSAP DC
o Provides event details to Marketing & Communications for publicity purposes
o Plans and executes at least 6 events per calendar year aimed at promoting volunteerism and educating members about political issues
o Works with Membership to develop a member orientation/volunteer training program for members
o Assists other board members as needed


Political Awareness Pillar Chair

Plans and executes events designed to highlight recent political and societal scenarios that impact the South Asian community.
o Provides event reports to the Executive Board
o Creates event plans, pre-event budgets and post event reports
o Liaisons with local, state and federal political figures
o Arranges guest speakers and panel discussions
o Keeps up with local, state and federal elections and educates members through events, discussions, website articles, blogs, and newsletters
o Fosters the development of South Asians as thought leaders and encourages members to get involved in politically active movements, demonstrations,
and presentations
o Assists other board members as needed

Cultural Awareness Pillar Chair

Plans and executes events designed to promote cultural awareness.
o Provides event reports to the Executive Board
o Creates event plans, pre-event budgets and post event reports
o Forges strategic partnerships with South Asian cultural organizations on behalf of NetSAP DC
o Educates members about all types of South Asian holidays and festivals
o Educates members about South Asian cities/cultures/food
o Plans, organizes and executes at least six cultural events (dances, talent shows, holidays, etc.)
o Assists other board members as needed

Professional Development Chair

Plans and executes events designed to provide skills and training that enhance professional development.
o Provides event reports to the Executive Board
o Creates event plans, pre-event budgets and post event reports
o Works with Director of Corporate Relations to forge strategic partnerships with appropriate organizations on behalf of NetSAP DC to provider greater value to NetSAP DC members
o Provides event details to Marketing & Communications for publicity purposes
o Plans, organizes, recruits volunteers, and executes at least 6-8 events per calendar year aimed at promoting professional development (panel discussions, etc.)
o Builds relationships with experts in a variety of vertical industries (finance, technology, legal, healthcare)
o Assists other board members as needed

Families Committee Chair

Plans and executes events designed to provide familiar interaction opportunities with South Asian families in DC Metro.
o Provides event reports to the Executive Board
o Creates event plans, pre-event budgets and post event reports
o Provides event details to Marketing & Communications for publicity purposes
o Plans, organizes, recruits volunteers, and executes at least 6-8 events per calendar year aimed at family oriented events (i.e., Holi, Diwali, Picnics, Playgroups, Moms/Dads Night Out, etc)
o Assists other board members as needed

South Asian Literary and Theatre Arts Festival (SALTAF) Chair

SALTAF seeks to celebrate the diversity of South Asian-themed literary and theater arts; increase awareness of South Asian arts in the DC area; offer both established and up-and-coming artists the opportunity to reach a wider audience; and provide a forum for artists to discuss their works with each other and with their audience. The festival was started by members of the NetSAP DC book club to meet the authors of the books they were reading. A theater arts component was added in 2003 to broaden the event's scope to include playwrights, screenwriters, directors, and actors. SALTAF 2008 marks the fifth year NetSAP DC is partnering with the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Program.
