Background

The mission of the NetSAP Political Committee is to promote the political development of the South Asian professional community in the greater Washington DC area through a series of dynamic, interactive and educational events.

Vision for the Political Committee:
The Committee intends to take a non-partisan approach to educating the South Asian community on relevant political issues, to provide forums for discussion and debate, and to increase interaction between politically active and/or accomplished individuals to promote the involvement and understanding of the broader South Asian community in the American political and legislative processes. In order for the NetSAP-DC community to succeed professionally and socially, our members need to understand how America functions politically, and to develop a deeper understanding of the American political system to create a stronger presence within the political community. Only then can our members effectively utilize the resources that are available to all of us.

Goals & Events for 2005:
Educate and inform NetSAP members and the area’s South Asian community about political issues and topics relevant and of interest to them such as religion & politics, immigration, tort reform and other current political events.

Provide a variety of dynamic monthly forums for discussion including smaller events (such as informal chai chats on current events or small group dinners) and events designed for larger audiences (such as panel discussions on specific issues or lectures by prominent South Asians). We also intend to increase the interaction and cooperation among the various South Asian political and professional organizations in the region. Doing so will strengthen the ability of each these organizations, including the Political Committee, to serve the needs of their members.
