Washington, DC is the heart of politics of the world. However, living in DC, we forget about the local politics. And what perfect timing to focus on the local political issues since DC and Maryland are having elections.
Mission:
To promote the political discourse in the South Asian American community
To engage people in political action through various events in Washington, DC
To educate the community through talks, educational series, and newsletters on political issues that may affect the South Asian American community at-large
The Committee takes a non-partisan approach to educating the South Asian community on relevant political issues, provides forums for discussion and debate, and seeks to (1) increase interaction with politically active and/or accomplished individuals and (2) promote the involvement and understanding of the broader South Asian community in the political and legislative processes.
Planned Events:
Monthly Chai Chats, to discuss a pertinent topic affecting the South Asian community
Networking events with various PACs and organizations that primarily address the South Asian community
Developing a DC Metro South Asian political e-newsletter published regularly
Having co-sponsored events with other organizations in DC
Meet and greet session with Congress people and South Asian American aids
Teaming up with NetSAP DC, Community Service Committee for voting drives in DC and Maryland
Attending as a group DC and Maryland political debates for various positions
The Committee welcomes suggestions, volunteers, and comments. Please email: political@netsap.org.
