CULTURAL - Screening of Mani Ratnam's "Guru" – a part of Filmfest DC, Washington DC
International Film Festival

Date: Saturday, April 21, 2007
Start Time: 3:00 PM
Where: Wisconsin Avenue Cinema, 4000 Wisconsin Ave NW
Parking: Parking is available in the building for $2.00 with a validated parking ticket.
Event Details:
As part of the Washington DC International Film Festival, there will be a screening of Mani Ratnam's "Guru". Once again painting on an ambitious, color-drenched widescreen canvas, South Indian filmmaker and FFDC favorite Mani Ratnam (From the Heart, A Peck on the Cheek) is back with a sweeping new rags-to-riches-to-rags dramatic musical. Climbing from humble 1950s Gujarati beginnings to a stint in Istanbul and eventually to dominant success in the 1980s Bombay clothing business, Gurukant Desai (Abhishek Bachchan) takes wife Sujata (Aishwarya Rai) along the way. Ruthlessly attacking the competition, he loses the support of stalwart publisher Manik Das Gupta (Mithun Chakraborty), and eventually succumbs to greed and corruption. The on-screen chemistry between Bachchan and Rai is palpable, and the rhythmic, propulsive score by long-time collaborator A.R. Rahman provides plenty of opportunity for eye-catching musical numbers-which are character-driven and skillfully integrated into the plot. Guru is another successful excursion into Hindi-language storytelling for the indefatigable Mani Ratnam. Hindi with English subtitles.
Please email cultural@netsap.org by April 18 if interested. We will meet as a group beforehand and see the movie. If there is interest, we can have coffee, drinks, or dinner afterward to discuss.
Price: General Admission is $9.00. Tickets are available through Tickets.com by calling (800) 955-5566 or at all Olsson's Books and Records and CD Game Exchange stores. Tickets are also available through the Filmfest DC website ( www.filmfestdc.org) or at www.tickets.com. No Tickets.com sales the day of the show. Tickets may also be purchased at the theatre one hour before the first show of the day. Cash or check sales only at the theaters.

Dinner Circle - Wednesday, April 25, 2007
Welcome to the April Dinner Circle! This month's event will be held on Wed. April 25, 2007 starting at 6:30 pm (times vary based on individual restaurant reservations - see details below).
We will host a post-dinner reception starting at 9:00 pm at Gazuza in Dupont Circle.
Dinner Circle Details:
Have you been searching for the opportunity to meet and get to know other South Asian professionals in the Washington DC area? Are you the type that prefers small dinners with friends over raucous nights out at clubs? Well, then come participate in the Dinner Circle. These small group dinners are designed to provide comfortable, intimate settings where young professionals with similar interests can have meaningful conversations and expand their social and professional relationships.
Here's how it works: Please click on the link below if you'd like to attend and answer a few questions that will help us learn more about you. Once we have a list of all interested participants, we'll divide you up into groups of 6-8 people and email each group the specific restaurant at which they should meet. Then, just show up ready to be social and enjoy a meal! There is no fee for the event, though you will have to pay for your share of the dinner.
Our commitment: We'll do our best to maximize the potential of the evening by thoughtfully matching participants with others of similar age, interests, and career stage. We'll also try to pick easily accessible, moderately priced restaurants that make the evening more enjoyable.
Your commitment: First, we ask that you show up to your assigned restaurant on time (that's Eastern Standard Time, not Indian Standard Time!). Second, because these groups are intended to be small, one or two people canceling at the last minute can really disrupt the dynamic. Thus, we ask that you ONLY sign up for the event if you're 100% sure that you'll be able to attend.
Here's the link: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=749553490751. The deadline to sign up is Saturday, April 21 at noon. Restaurant assignments will be sent out on Monday, April 23. If you have any questions or comments, e-mail:dinner@netsap.org
