The NetSAP DC Ninth Annual Charity Gala will be held on Saturday July 22, 2006 at the Corcoran Gallery of Art. Tickets for what promises to be the hottest event of the year will go on sale TOMORROW! Look out for details from us.

SALTAF’06 COMMITTEE: Planning Meeting, Tuesday, June 27, 2006 at 7:00pm

The SALTAF Committee is responsible for planning and coordinating all details involved with the phenomenally successful South Asian Literary and Theater Arts Festival. This is an annual event hosted at the Smithsonian and it features prominent South Asian writers, filmmakers and artists and draws hundreds of South Asians from across the East Coast to DC each fall. SALTAF provides authors, filmmakers, literary and theatre professionals the opportunity to interact with their audience. Bibliophiles, cinema fans and young professionals can explore the creative process with professional artists and discover outlets for their own creative aspirations. SALTAF celebrates the achievements of South Asians in the literature and arts and it has become one of NetSAP DC's most recognized and renowned flagship events.

We are still looking for volunteers to work on our website and flyers / promotional material. Please email saltaf@netsap.org for more information.

(1) CMHS: A Thousand Feet A Joyful Beat, Wednesday, June 21, 2006, 6:30 pm

 

The Center for Multicultural Human Services, (CMHS) cordially requests the pleasure of your company at a very special event at the Clarendon Ballroom in Arlington, Virginia. We invite you to a fun filled evening of international dance performances, dance instruction, and socializing with young professionals from the DC Metro Area. Performances will include hip-hop, flamenco, belly dancing, Indian dance, and much more. The emcee for the event will be Miss Ethiopia, Jiitu Abraham.

 

CMHS is a non-profit organization located in Northern Virginia that helps people from ethnically diverse backgrounds succeed by providing comprehensive, culturally sensitive mental health and related services and by conducting research and training to make such services more widely available.

 

This evening features “A Thousand Feet, a Joyful Beat”. This is a worthwhile event that will raise funds in support of CMHS’s programs for children and their families who have been affected by war and other trauma and are struggling to rebuild their lives in the DC metropolitan area.

(2) Active Learning Abroad, GWU Graduate Students in International Education: Fundraiser, Friday, June 23, 3006, 8:00 pm

 

Fundraising event to raise money toward our trip to India and Bangladesh in August, where we will be investigating alternative models of education.  Proceeds will be used to help cover travel expenses and toward gifts for our host schools! Bring your after-work happy hour to McFadden's for a good cause!

Community Empowerment Training - a skills building training on how to empower your local community.

 

South Asian American Leaders of Tomorrow (SAALT) invites you to a DC Metro Area training for active community members, SAALT volunteers, and those interested in getting more involved with your local community. This will be an interactive training using a social justice framework that will focus on how you can engage within the South Asian community through various projects. We would like to encourage local SAALT Community Liaisons, Policy Action Taskforce members, and volunteers to attend.

The Rhythmaya School of Dance is looking for experienced dancers to serve as instructors in its D.C. and Northern Virginia studio locations.  Class levels include children through adults, and dance styles include bollywood, bhangra, fusion, folk, and semi-classical.  This is a part-time, paid position, and instructors are required to have a reliable mode of transportation to and from classes.
