The National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden includes an intriguing mix of 20th century sculpture.  The sculptures are arranged among trees and shrubs in a large circle, which allows for a unique presentation of the mostly oversized, abstract works.  Pieces by Alexander Calder and Joan Miro, as well as Barry Flanagan's version of the Thinker are included.

 

Come enjoy a summer evening of jazz and mingle with your fellow NetSAP members and Cultural co-Chairs.  We will be around the water fountain area.

Ninth Annual Charity Gala, Corcoran Gallery of Art, Saturday, July 22, 2006 at 7:00 pm.


NetSAP DC invites you to attend its Ninth Annual Charity Gala, being held at the Corcoran Gallery of Art on July 22, 2006 at 7:00pm. This year's event will include: a cocktail reception with tours of the art gallery; an elegant, three course gourmet meal prepared by one of the finest chefs in DC; a keynote address by successful entrepreneur, Desh Deshpande; presentations of awards to outstanding young South Asians, and live music performed by renowned local South Asian musicians.

The Gala benefits three charities whose work is invaluable in terms of providing disaster relief (American Red Cross), literacy (First Book) and hunger relief (The Akshaya Patra Foundation) to those in need in the South Asian nations. We will also be holding a Silent Auction at the Charity Gala and invite you to get involved! Would you like to donate a unique item, a gift or a service (such as dance lessons, cooking classes etc.)? Get creative and get involved. SAALT’s Refocus Series: The Immigrant Experience

 

Marina Budhos’ new novel, Ask Me No Questions, portrays an undocumented Bangladeshi family facing deportation in post-9/11 America. She is also the author of House of Waiting, The Professor of Light and Remix: Conversations with Immigrant Teenagers.

 

Rishi Reddi is the author of the forthcoming collection Karma and Other Stories, which includes fiction chosen for The Best American Short Stories 2005 and for honorable mention in Pushcart Prize 2004.

(3) DANCE PRODUCTION: Sneha Yagam, July 29, 2006 at 6:30pm

 

Please come and enjoy a unique dance production titled 'Sneha Yagam – an Offering to Mother Nature' on Saturday, July 29th  at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre, Rockville, MD.  You get to see 17+ talented & classically trained dancers presenting a colorful and invigorating production choreographed by the most talked about young dancing couple, Sreekanth & Aswathy. The lyrics for the production are a mix of the ancient poet Kalidasa and the modern poet and movie lyricist Kaithapram. 

 

This is a rare opportunity to see a dance production, which tastefully and artfully blends Sanskrit & Malayalam lyrics, Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattom dance movements set to old & modern musical instruments, all to present a social theme, such as environment.
